The divide between the rich and the poor. Education has always been seen as a way out of poverty...a way to give every person a shot at the American dream. But our educational system is leaving children behind and it is costing our nation billions of dollars each year.
According to Dr. Ed Zigler, widely considered the father of Head Start:
“All scholars agree that the average quality across this country is somewhere between poor and mediocre and probably 15 percent of all kids are being damaged in childcare. That’s why, that’s one of the major reasons why children show up at school not ready to learn. Their, their growth and development is handicapped by that poor childcare system for the first five years.”
