Foster adoption

Unlike Foreign adoption, which could cost tens of thousands of dollars, Foster adoption is free. Further, counseling and other services, including secondary education and College aid is provided for all foster and foster adopted children.

Costs of care

In the documentary Social worker Velma Boyd from the Village for Families and Children said that for $50,000 you could hold a family together, providing assistance with housing, education and parenting skills, thereby prevent the removal of the child, due to neglect.

Just to subsidize the costs for the 3,250 children in foster care, Connecticut spends over 80,000 dollars a day.*

*Based on averaging the three age groups together (0-5, 6-11, 12 and over) and leaving aside the most costly, the medically complex and a parent/child combination, Connecticut supplies a per diem subsidy to foster parent(s) of 25.24 per day per child, that translates to $82,030 a day

Children in foster care and those adopted after January 1, 2005, will have their expenses to attend a two or four year institute of higher education paid for by the state.

State by state adoption policy at cptv.org

Since 2000 Joint adoption by same sex couples has been legal in Connecticut. That is clearly the case in only 8 other states; California, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Vermont.

The only state that clearly prohibits joint adoption by same sex couples is Florida. The complete list and definitions for the different types of adoption follow.
