The roots of Connecting Our Communities go back to the late 1990s when CPBI’s television broadcast station, CPTV, began planning for the government-mandated conversion of its broadcast signal to digital transmission. The required transition provided CPBI with a unique opportunity to partner with community organizations to develop new sources of program content that serve the diverse communities of Connecticut.

“CPTV approached the Capitol Region Partnership with the creative idea that allows us to emphasize the necessity of working together as a region in order to compete as a premier place for all people to live, work, play and raise a family. As a result this documentary enables us to stimulate discussion about thinking and acting as a region. It will also enable us to communicate the message to a statewide audience that our ability to grow jobs, attract capital, and recruit and retain talent requires the dynamic collaboration of businesses, education, healthcare and government,” said Oz Griebel, president and chief executive officer, MetroHartford Alliance.

“Each year, members of the Catalyst Endowment Fund at the Hartford Foundation examine a topic affecting our community and award grants to organizations addressing that topic,” said Richard Porth, vice president of grantmaking for the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. “Last year, Catalyst examined how changing growth patterns in our region impact our shared interests in good schools, healthy cities and towns, affordable housing, open space, and reduced congestion. They decided that helping to support this documentary would get people talking about the issues facing the Greater Hartford region and ways that our cities and towns might work together to address common issues.”
